I went back and made sure to place an order for the correct vegan ramen this time- the creamy vegan ramen! And it was delicious, easily among the best vegan ramen I had. The sweet inari(fried tofu), perfectly cooked sweetish acorn squash, fried kale (ignoring the inedible center stalk), the surprisingly delectable spinach noodles(other than the fact that they were green, they didn't taste anything like spinach, which is good) and the most delicious creamy vegan soup came together so wonderfully in this bowl. I can see myself coming back again for it. We also got the vegetarian gyoza. With a crisp pan fried bottom and a delectable filling, these were 5/5 as well.
TLDR; parking is a nightmare but it's worth it! I can't believe it took us a while to even discover this place. As we hike our butts from the East to the South Bay, we are able to bring our pup and enjoy some delicious ramen, donburi, and soft serve. The staff are consistently gracious and helpful. They always ask if they can bring out a small plastic to go container of water for our dog. He gets to sit patiently with us in the back patio while we enjoy what is the best ramen in the Bay Area. Yes, I said it. And yes, it's a highly controversial and bold statement to make. But it truly is the best ramen I've had so far here. Whether it's a classic ramen that stays on the menu, or a featured limited summer cold ramen (which is delicious, do not pass it up), the ramen is consistently good whether we've dined there or brought takeout home. Yes, their take home set of four has smaller portions than if you dine in, but it's just as good and saves a trek over to the restaurant. So far, everything we've eaten and tried has been delicious. To my surprise, my favorite thing was the vanilla soft serve. It's not just the soft serve that's good. It's the waffle cone that you pay extra to have it served in. Pay the extra whatever it is. It's so so worth it that I'm salivating just thinking about how perfect it is. That's enough reading for now. Enjoy your meal here and I'll be content knowing that my civic duty for the year has been completed. You're welcome.
Cold ramen with clams (summer special) - I had it twice this summer and I still think about it. So, so good. I got it with the spinach noodles which don't taste any different to me from regular noodles, but it makes me feel like I'm had my daily intake of vegetables. You order on your phone so it makes splitting the bill easy. Typical ramen joint interior. I've been to other Hinodeya locations and generally think their ramen is decent but the clams one is a solid 5.
Best ramen in San Jose. The clam ramen has a generous amount of clams included and the takoyaki balls are tasty.
Food always good here! My boyfriend and I always enjoy the spicy pork bowl and beef bowl . I forgot my purse on accident and they brought it to me when we were driving out, so sweet ! And the lighting is pretty and relaxing .
They have a small parking lot in the back so if it's a busy time, it might be a little difficult to find parking. Also, it might be a good idea to back into the spot because it's a little tight. The restaurant is nice inside. They have indoor and outdoor seating. They have a QR code at the table and you can order from there. If you're eating with friends, everyone can put in their own order and no need to split the bill later. You order and pay from your phone. The only downside is that it already asks for tip before you even get served. I guess you can always tip cash later? I got their hinodeya ramen which is a dashi based broth. If you're used to standard ramens like tonkotsu, miso, shoyu base, this will have that seafoody taste to it. It's good, but just different. Their soft boiled egg was really good.
My friend and I went here a little after 9pm. I was surprised at how full the restaurant still was at this hour on a Sunday. It must show how much people enjoy it! The place is pretty small, about 12 tables max. But I appreciate it's not a huge place. It was comfortable for me. There isn't really service in the traditional sense because you order through a QR code and pre-pay at your table. You get brought your food and drinks and water, but that's the most interaction there is. argus can be convenient for a lot of people, but it's not as convenient if you have questions; though, I'm sure you could ask them if you have any questions. What was cool about this place, and unique for a ramen place, is they allow you to customize your spice level; though, they do charge for more spice , which is not something I've seen before with Indian, Thai, or other cuisines with custom spice levels. I ordered the spicy miso ramen with regular spice. It was not really spicy, but it was pretty good. Decent flavor. I thought the egg was cooked perfectly -- not too much but still a slight jelly texture to the center. For me it was perfect. I thought the three pieces of pork were DELICIOUS. They were flavorful and tender and tasted clean. Sometimes the pork in ramens I've had before were tough, not super flavorful, or greasy. I didn't get any of that in this one. The ramen was $18, pre-tax, which I thought was very expensive, but maybe that's normal for the area. Overall I enjoyed it. I like matcha and IPAs, so, naturally, I really wanted to try the matcha IPA. It was one of those things I figured I'd try once for the uniqueness but not really like, but it was way better than expected. I enjoyed it and would definitely get it again. (And yes, it's green because of the matcha).
This place is one of the favorites for ramen. I usually put my name on waitlist coz they have limited seats and they get really busy for dinner. Also, the parking is very limited as well so it's better to carpool if there's many of you. Anyway, we ordered vegan (creamy) ramen and Hamaguri Ramen which is clams. The clams they serve is a really good portion. I must say the vegan (creamy) ramen and clams are pretty good! Both are served hot, there's an option for cold ramen. They have outside and inside table, I always prefer the outside. You order your food thru scanning the QR code and they will serve you the food that you order. Pretty easy and you don't have to wait for them to get your order :)
The ramen here is always so amazing, hands down my favorite ramen place ever, the hinodeya broth was clear and light and the cheese ramen is heavier but it's creamy spicy miso, always so good. What I love about this place is how they let you customize the spice and salt levels in the ramen which is so nice since almost all the other ramen places i try have over salted broth ;-; (also the takoyaki was so bomb too I like that it's only 4 per order so u don't get too full because one bowl of ramen is definitely enough for one person) Service is nice but nothing special, I think it's minimal and very streamline since you order through the website and pay first before they make your food, which is perfect for large parties or going with groups where you have to figure out how to split the bill. There was plenty of seating inside and also an outdoor section which had a tent and lights up, a bit dimmer outside and a bit brighter inside, but all their locations are very cutely decorated and very professional. I have to drive down from Berkeley but would definitely come back and I always recommend it to my friends
